Player Profile
At fourteen years old, Jesse Edwards had never touched a basketball. Yet this 7-foot Dutch center managed to make his NBA debut with the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 2, 2025, against the Phoenix Suns, becoming one of the first Dutch players to set foot on the league's courts that season.
Born to a Dutch mother and a British father, Edwards grew up in a family where basketball ran in the blood. His older brother Kai was already playing professionally, creating an environment that nurtured his late-blooming talent. At Apollo Amsterdam, young Jesse played alongside Quinten Post, a future NBA player, forging lasting connections with the emerging Dutch elite.
After graduating from the Amsterdams Lyceum, Edwards crossed the Atlantic to join the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida. This transition marked the beginning of a meteoric rise that took him to Syracuse University, where he combined athletic excellence with studies in biotechnology, before completing his college career at West Virginia in 2023–24.
His late but spectacular physical and technical development quickly caught the attention of national team selectors. As early as July 2022, he was wearing the orange jersey of the Netherlands, taking part in the FIBA World Cup 2023 qualifiers and EuroBasket 2022.
Going undrafted in 2024, Edwards did not give up and secured a two-way contract with Minnesota. Alongside his playing career, he serves as an ambassador for the Cruyff Foundation, carrying on the Dutch sporting legacy among young people. His unconventional journey perfectly illustrates that in basketball, it is never too late to unlock your potential.
