Player Profile
From Omaha to the NBA in just a few years: the journey of Jokhow Panom "JT" Thor is a story of meteoric rise through American basketball. Born to South Sudanese parents in 2002, this young power forward only discovered basketball in seventh grade at West Anchorage High School in Alaska, where his family had moved when he was five years old.
Growing up within a tight-knit South Sudanese community in Anchorage shaped Thor's character, and he has remained deeply connected to his roots despite a nomadic academic path. At 14, he left Alaska for West Virginia to join his brother at Huntington Prep School, before completing his high school education in Georgia at Norcross High School. This constant mobility built his adaptability, a quality that would prove invaluable on the court.
His senior-year high school averages of 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds earned him an all-state selection and opened the doors to Auburn University. An undisputed starter from his very first college season, Thor started all 27 of his team's games and impressed with his athleticism and defensive versatility. These qualities, rare for a player of his size, quickly drew the attention of NBA scouts.
One of eight siblings, Thor carries the hopes of a large family after declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft following just one season at Auburn. His rapid rise, from high school basketball in Alaska to professional courts, speaks to a potential that remains largely untapped and could well turn heads in the years to come.
