Nicknamed "Mr. Do Something", De'Anthony Melton perfectly embodies the philosophy of a player capable of doing everything on a basketball court. This nickname didn't come about by chance: back in high school at Crespi Carmelite, the California point guard-shooting guard was already putting up impressive numbers with 20 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game in his senior year, leading his team to two consecutive state titles while becoming the school's all-time leading scorer.
His brief stint at USC confirmed his exceptional potential. In just one season, Melton joined a very exclusive club by becoming the first freshman since Dwyane Wade to compile at least 300 points, 150 rebounds, 100 assists, 60 steals and 35 blocks. This rare versatility reflects a high basketball IQ and a remarkable work ethic, two qualities that define his approach to the game.
But Melton's journey also illustrates resilience in the face of adversity. Suspended during the 2017-18 season as part of the NCAA corruption scandal, he bounced back by declaring for the draft. More recently, left ACL surgery in 2025 kept him off the court for much of the regular season, a new challenge to overcome for this born competitor.
Recognized for his elite defense and ability to impact the game in multiple ways, Melton continues to prove that his nickname is well-deserved. Every return to the court confirms his determination to do "something" meaningful on every possession.
