Player Profile
When David Roddy was throwing the discus to win a state title in Minnesota, few could have imagined he would one day become an NBA professional. Yet, this exceptional athletic versatility perfectly defines the journey of this Minneapolis native.
At Breck School, Roddy excelled simultaneously in three different areas: a formidable offensive quarterback in football with an all-state selection, a state champion in discus throwing, and a promising basketball player. This rare combination of talents opened the doors of Division I universities in two major sports. His choice to prioritize basketball at Colorado State would prove decisive.
Wearing the Rams jersey, Roddy quickly transformed his potential into concrete performances. His impact went beyond individual statistics: he became one of the key contributors to Colorado State's return to March Madness, their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013. This collective resurgence propelled the program to new heights and confirmed Roddy's influence on team play.
The 2022 NBA Draft marked a turning point with his selection at 23rd overall by Philadelphia, immediately traded to Memphis. Since then, his professional journey has taken him from the Grizzlies to the Suns, Hawks, and Rockets, accumulating valuable experience across different systems of play.
This adaptability, forged during his multi-sport high school years, is now one of his greatest assets. Roddy embodies this generation of complete athletes capable of thriving in varied environments, a quality that could well define the rest of his NBA career.
