Player Profile

When DaRon Holmes II stepped onto the court for his NBA Summer League debut in July 2024, nothing foreshadowed the cruel twist of fate that awaited him. A torn right Achilles tendon abruptly cut short the 22-year-old big man's dream, ending his rookie season before it even began.

Yet this injury cannot erase the remarkable journey of this native of Goodyear, Arizona. Named Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year in 2019-20, Holmes had chosen the University of Dayton to write his college legacy. His arrival already made history — the Flyers had never recruited a player ranked as highly.

On the Dayton hardwood, the 6'10" power forward lived up to every expectation. The team's leading scorer and shot-blocker throughout his college career, he became the only true sophomore in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in his second season. More than just a scorer, Holmes established himself through his basketball IQ and imposing defensive presence.

His impact transcended individual statistics. Under his leadership, Dayton returned to March Madness and secured its first NCAA Tournament win since 2014-15. Those performances convinced the Denver Nuggets to select him with the 22nd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, following a trade with Phoenix.

Currently in rehabilitation, Holmes has all the tools to bounce back from this setback. His high basketball IQ and defensive versatility remain intact, promising a strong return to the most competitive league in the world.
