Player Profile
When Colby Jones hit the game-winning three-pointer against Providence during his freshman year at Xavier, few could have imagined that moment would perfectly capture his basketball DNA: the ability to rise up in clutch situations.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Jones built his character through change. After shining at Pinson Valley High School with impressive averages of 23.9 points and 7.9 rebounds in his sophomore year, his transfer to Mountain Brook High School proved to be a turning point. Alongside Trendon Watford, he helped claim the Alabama State championship in Class 7A, before taking on a leadership role in his senior year, averaging 25.2 points.
This natural versatility, Jones's trademark, is rooted in a family environment steeped in basketball. The son of Chad Jones, a former UAB player, and brother of C.J., who also played at the college and professional levels, Colby grew up breathing the sport. This basketball heritage partly explains his instinctive understanding of the game and his well-known work ethic.
A four-star recruit, Jones chose Xavier despite interest from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and UAB. That decision proved wise, allowing him to develop his skills as a well-rounded player capable of filling multiple positions. His ability to contribute across all statistical categories speaks to a rare basketball IQ.
Now a professional in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Jones embodies this new generation of versatile players whose all-around game has become a major asset in the modern era.
