Player Profile
When Bobi Klintman steps onto an NBA court, he carries far more than the hopes of the Detroit Pistons on his shoulders. This 6'9" forward represents a historic first: he is the first Black Nordic player to be drafted in the NBA, opening an unprecedented path for representation and diversity in the league.
His journey reflects remarkable determination. Born in Malmö to a Swedish mother and a Senegalese father, Klintman climbed every rung of Swedish basketball, from the third-division Basketettan all the way to the prestigious Basketligan with Borås Basket. In 2021, he crossed the Atlantic to join Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, establishing himself as a highly sought-after four-star prospect courted by American universities.
After a promising season at Wake Forest where he averaged 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, Klintman took an unconventional route to the NBA. He headed to Australia and the Cairns Taipans through the NBL's Next Stars program, a professional experience that sharpened his game before he was selected 37th overall in the 2024 draft by Minnesota, then immediately traded to Detroit.
On the international stage, he has already made his mark by winning gold at the U18 Nordic Championships and earning a spot on the All-Star team at the 2022 FIBA U20 European Championship Division B with Sweden. Described as a "modern NBA prototype" for his versatility, Klintman splits time between the Pistons and their G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, refining his game at the highest level.
