Paris Basketball: Already Active on the Market, David Joerger Has Found Herrera’s Replacement

Even though his appointment has not yet been made official, David Joerger is already working on Paris Basketball’s recruitment. According to our information, the former NBA head coach has targeted Dakota Mathias (6’4″, 30 years old) to replace the club’s iconic shooter Sebastian Herrera (6’4″, 28 years old).
The American shooting guard recently signed with the Tasmania JackJumpers in the Australian NBL. His contract includes an opt-out clause valid until July 1st, subject to the payment of a buyout.
David Joerger Already Active on the Paris Market
The recruitment of Dakota Mathias would clearly bear David Joerger’s mark. The future Paris Basketball head coach would be looking to offset the loss of Herrera with an experienced profile capable of immediately contributing outside shooting and long-range accuracy.
At 30 years old, the former Purdue player has a particularly rich career. After stints in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Memphis Grizzlies, he also played in the Liga Endesa with Joventut Badalona and Tenerife, in Germany with Ulm, and in the G League.
A Three-Point Shooting Specialist
Known for his shooting ability, Dakota Mathias is coming off a season split between Australia and the G League.
With the Brisbane Bullets, he averaged 11.8 points on 37.5% from three-point range over eight games. His output was even more impressive in the G League, where he averaged 21.9 points with 43.9% shooting from beyond the arc, while adding 4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
During his college career at Purdue, he had already established himself as one of the best shooters in the country, finishing his NCAA career with 250 three-pointers made and a 46.6% shooting percentage from deep in his final season.
A Deal Still Open
The deal is not yet finalized, however. Dakota Mathias has signed with the Tasmania JackJumpers for the 2026-2027 season and his club does not appear willing to let him leave for free.
The presence of an opt-out clause until July 1st nevertheless leaves a window of opportunity for Paris Basketball. It remains to be seen whether the capital club will be willing to pay the necessary fee to attract the American and provide David Joerger with one of his first signings.
