Moe Wagner will not leave Orlando after all. The 28-year-old German big man has just signed a new one-year contract worth $5 million with the Magic, according to ESPN sources. A decision that allows the Wagner brothers to continue their journey together in Florida.

A golden deal for Orlando after declining team option

The Magic had declined Wagner’s $11 million team option this summer, making him an unrestricted free agent. However, the Florida organization makes an excellent move by keeping the player for less than half the initial price. Wagner’s agent, Jason Glushon, finalized negotiations with Magic executives on Friday.

This salary reduction is mainly explained by the German’s injury. Last December, Moe Wagner suffered a left knee ACL tear, prematurely ending what was his best statistical season in his career.

An anticipated return after a promising season cut short

Before his injury, Wagner was putting up exceptional numbers with 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in just 18.8 minutes. His shooting percentages were also impressive: 56.2% from the field and a career-best 36% from 3-point range. These statistics made him a serious candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award.

The big man was even leading the NBA in points scored among players playing less than 20 minutes per game, according to ESPN Research. His presence will be crucial for a Magic team that aims to play a leading role in the Eastern Conference next season.

The remaining question is whether Wagner will be ready for the start of the 2025-2026 campaign or if he will return during the season. Either way, Orlando is betting on his full recovery to regain the level that made him one of the league’s best sixth men before his injury.
