Olympiacos demonstrated their resilience once again, overcoming a sluggish start to defeat Baskonia 90-80 in front of their home crowd. The Greek powerhouse found themselves trailing 19-24 after the opening quarter but quickly regained composure to control the remainder of the contest.
Vezenkov spearheads Olympiacos comeback
Sasha Vezenkov was instrumental in Olympiacos’ turnaround, delivering a stellar performance with 20 points and six rebounds. The Bulgarian forward’s efficiency proved crucial as Georgios Bartzokas’ squad built momentum throughout the game.
Nikola Milutinov provided excellent support in the frontcourt, contributing 17 points and six rebounds to complement Vezenkov’s efforts. The Serbian center’s presence in the paint helped establish Olympiacos’ dominance as the game progressed.
The backcourt duo of Tyler Dorsey and forward Tyrique Jones each added 15 points, ensuring balanced scoring that kept Baskonia at bay. Their contributions were vital in maintaining the hosts’ advantage once they had seized control of the proceedings.
Baskonia’s efforts fall short despite Omoruyi’s impact
Eugene Omoruyi led Baskonia’s offensive charge with 18 points, but his individual brilliance wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors from suffering defeat in Piraeus. The forward’s scoring output represented the Spanish side’s most consistent threat throughout the contest.
Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot provided secondary scoring with 14 points, while Mamadi Diakite and Trent Forrest each contributed 11 points in supporting roles. Despite their collective efforts, Baskonia couldn’t match Olympiacos’ intensity once the hosts found their rhythm.
This victory marks Olympiacos’ second consecutive triumph, following their previous success against Fenerbahçe at home. The Greek giants have successfully protected their home court advantage, demonstrating the kind of consistency that could prove decisive as the EuroLeague season progresses. Bartzokas will be pleased with his team’s ability to respond after a difficult opening quarter, showing the mental fortitude required for sustained success at Europe’s highest level.
