Kevin Durant wrote a new page in NBA history Saturday night in Houston. The 37-year-old forward surpassed Michael Jordan to become the 5th all-time leading scorer, reaching 32,294 points during the Rockets’ victory over the Miami Heat(123-122).
Durant, who needed 26 points to surpass the Bulls legend, achieved this goal with a 3-pointer made with 3 minutes 53 seconds remaining in regulation. The shot, made from the right corner, allowed him to total two points more than Jordan (32,292).

« Four more to catch, » Durant declares after his achievement
After briefly raising his arms in triumph, Durant remained focused on the future: « Four more to catch, » he said with a smile. The former 2013-2014 MVP is referring to the four players who still rank ahead of him.
When asked about his favorite Jordan memories, Durant responded with humor: « No. That’s like asking me if I have a favorite Drake song. No, they’re all excellent. MJ has so many great moments. He simply embodies the iconic divine level – everything I believe in, he embodies it. »
Durant finished the game with 27 points on 9/17 shooting (5/9 from 3-point range), along with three rebounds and three assists. Although he missed the potential game-winner in the final seconds, Amen Thompson saved Houston by scoring after an offensive rebound.
Coach Ime Udoka emphasized the importance of this moment:
« It’s an honor for everyone to be part of this. As KD has said in the past, I don’t think he cares much about it in the moment. He’s really focused on the season and what we’re trying to accomplish, but I don’t want to make it an afterthought. Surpassing Michael Jordan is obviously a huge accomplishment and we celebrated it with him. »
Durant, in his 19th NBA season (after missing 2019-2020 due to injury), will now need to target Kobe Bryant, 4th with 33,643 points. He will need 1,351 points to reach the Lakers legend. With a career average of 27.1 points per game, the four-time Olympic champion continues to prove that at 37, he remains one of the league’s best scorers.
