Nando De Colo highly doubtful for Madrid game, ASVEL severely depleted in backcourt
ASVEL will travel to Madrid with a depleted backcourt, like last Sunday in Saint-Quentin. According to Le Progrès, Nando De Colo (1.95m, 38 years old), injured in the third quarter against Baskonia last Friday, remains highly doubtful for the EuroLeague match against Real Madrid (9 PM). Already without Shaquille Harrison and Thomas Heurtel, Pierric Poupet’s team will have to manage with a severely weakened backcourt. On the opposing side, their former point guard Theo Maledon is also out.

Decimated backcourt for ASVEL
Absences are piling up in the Villeurbanne backcourt. Shaquille Harrison is sidelined for at least a month, Thomas Heurtel isn’t expected back until late October, and Nando De Colo might miss this prestigious away game. In this context, the club has brought in Mehdy Ngouama as a medical replacement, who just arrived in Villeurbanne on Monday.
Coach Pierric Poupet explained in Le Progrès that he quickly thought of him: « I contacted him after the Vitoria game. Mehdy is a very good defender who transitions quickly to offense, is in good shape since he completed pre-season and played some friendly matches with Bayern Munich. Also, he knows the French championship, which will save us time. »

At 30 years old, the former player of Nanterre, Le Portel, Gravelines-Dunkerque, Paris, Bourg, and Le Mans will discover the EuroLeague wearing ASVEL’s jersey. Winner of the 2024 EuroCup with Paris Basketball, he reunites in Villeurbanne with his former Denain teammate turned coach, Pierric Poupet.

No reunion with Theo Maledon
Against Real Madrid, Mehdy Ngouama won’t face Theo Maledon (1.93m, 24 years old). The former ASVEL player, who joined Real this summer, is injured in the adductors and will miss this meeting with his youth club.
Between injuries and adjustments, the game looks challenging for Villeurbanne, who will nevertheless try to create an upset on the court of European basketball’s most decorated club.
