Monaco received encouraging news this week as Nikola Mirotic returned to training following his foot problem. However, the forward’s comeback remains gradual, and his availability for the upcoming EuroLeague showdown against Milan hangs in the balance.
A progressive return for Mirotic
After suffering from plantar fasciitis, Mirotic has begun his return to practice in a limited capacity. Monaco head coach Manuchar Markoishvili provided an update on the Spanish forward’s condition, explaining the cautious approach being taken.
« Nikola trained on Monday, but he’s not ready yet. His return from injury is progressing well, he will soon be able to join our contact training sessions, » the Georgian coach explained. While the development represents positive progress, it falls short of what’s needed for Mirotic to feature against Milan.
The Roca Team will also be without Mike James, who remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury. This double absence leaves Monaco with just nine professional players available for this crucial encounter in their quest to secure a Top 8 playoff position.
Mental preparation key despite depleted roster
Despite the personnel challenges, Monaco’s coaching staff and players are maintaining a determined mindset heading into the final stretch of the EuroLeague regular season. Markoishvili emphasized the importance of focusing solely on the remaining fixtures.
« We must forget the past, both victories and defeats, and focus only on this end of season, which starts with the match against Milan. We have to be mentally ready to play hard, » the Monaco coach insisted.
Guard Nemanja Nedovic echoed his coach’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s collective resolve despite the reduced numbers. « There are six games left to finish this EuroLeague season, six finals. We are only nine, but we are ready to give everything, » Nedovic declared.
With six regular season games remaining, every match has become a must-win scenario for Monaco. The clash against Milan, a team known for its intensity and physicality, will test the Roca Team’s depth and resilience. However, Mirotic‘s gradual return to fitness provides hope for the crucial final sprint toward playoff qualification.
