Mohamed Diakité wants to take flight from Ulm in Germany

Trained in Poitiers and then at Pôle France, Mohamed Diakite (2.10 m, 19 years old) made his professional debut this season with Saint-Quentin in Betclic ELITE. While his playing time with the first team remained limited, the lanky wing player is expected to bounce back in a European program renowned for player development: Ulm, in Germany.
Mohamed Diakité heading to Ulm
After his first professional season at Saint-Quentin, where he played 9 Betclic ELITE games with modest statistics (1.7 points and 0.4 rebounds in 4 minutes on average), Mohamed Diakité is preparing for a change of direction. According to our information, the young wing will join German club Ulm. He is expected to succeed Noa Essengue (2.05 m, 18 years old), another French player from the 2006 generation with whom he played at Pôle France and for the French national team, who exploded in the Bundesliga this season and is expected to be selected in the first round of the next NBA Draft.
Rather than following the U.S. college path – commonly taken by players of his profile – Mohamed Diakité is likely to choose structured development within a European club known for its work with young players. At Ulm, if he lacks playing time, he can benefit from OrangeAcademy, the ProB team (German third division) that serves as a launching pad for the club’s prospects.

At Saint-Quentin, lacking professional playing time, his impact was mainly felt in Espoirs ELITE at the end of the season. In 13 games, he averaged 16.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on a struggling team. A high-potential player, very mobile for his size, he hopes to improve particularly on his outside shooting (33.8% from 3-point range on more than 6 attempts per game in Espoirs).
This departure is part of a growing trend: more and more young French players are choosing Germany to perfect their development, attracted by the clubs’ structure and the opportunity to quickly integrate professional rosters. Ulm has thus seen Killian Hayes, Pacôme Dadiet, and Noa Essengue pass through in recent years. All have been or will be drafted. Will Mohamed Diakite follow the same path?
