Marine Johannes (1.78m, 30 years old) continues her Turkish adventure. During the EuroBasket 2025 semi-final between France and Spain (64-65), Galatasaray Istanbul announced the arrival of the French shooting guard for the 2025-2026 season. After a successful season at Mersin, highlighted by a EuroLeague final, MJ will wear the yellow and red jersey of the Istanbul club, neighbor and rival of Fenerbahce where her compatriot and friend Gabby Williams plays.

A New Chapter at Galatasaray

At 30, Marine Johannes continues to expand her achievements and export her talent. Known for her creativity, court vision and shooting ability, the guard from Lisieux commits to Galatasaray Istanbul, one of the most historic clubs in Turkish women’s basketball. This transfer comes weeks after finishing her season with Mersin, where she reached the 2025 Women’s EuroLeague final.

The Istanbul club welcomed the arrival of « one of European basketball’s most talented and creative guards » in their announcement.

An Accomplished Season with Mersin

In her first overseas experience in FIBA basketball, Marine Johannes didn’t disappoint. With CBK Mersin, the French star shone in both the Turkish league (KBSL) and EuroLeague. She averaged 14.9 points and 5.3 assists per game in the championship, with remarkable percentages (43.4% from 3-point range, 93.3% free throws). In EuroLeague, she contributed to her team’s impressive run to the final, averaging 11.4 points, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals. She also won the Turkish Cup.

Still Between Europe and WNBA

Like almost every summer since 2019 (except 2020), Marine Johannes returned to New York to play the WNBA season with the Liberty. The French guard has become an important piece of the New York franchise, with whom she reached the finals in 2023.

Previously, the player who came through Mondeville’s youth academy, then played for Bourges and ASVEL, has already won the EuroCup (2023), three French championships, a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and a silver medal. With the national team, she has 122 caps and several European medals.

High Ambitions at Galatasaray

With this transfer to Galatasaray, Marine Johannes remains in a high-level championship and an ambitious team, aiming to return to national supremacy – after elimination in the playoff quarter-finals – and European glory. At guard, Johannes will share responsibilities with former Villeneuve d’Ascq player Kamiah Smalls (1.78m, 27 years old).
