Lisa Berkani, another French player in Spain
Liga Endesa Femenina - Lisa Berkani joins Estudiantes Madrid. The French player, recently released by Besiktas Istanbul, signs in Liga Endesa Femenina and will compete in EuroCup Women against Angers from the first round.

Lisa Berkani (1.75m, 28 years old) returns to European courts. A few weeks after leaving Besiktas Istanbul, where she didn’t play any official games, the French international has signed with Estudiantes Madrid. This destination confirms the trend of French players venturing into Liga Endesa Femenina. The schedule already offers a twist: Estudiantes will face Angers in the first round of Women’s EuroCup.

A new start in Spain
After two seasons in Italy with Umana Reyer Venezia, Lisa Berkani was set to discover the Turkish championship with Besiktas Istanbul. However, the Istanbul club and the Auvergne native mutually agreed to end their collaboration after preseason. She was replaced by another French international, Migna Touré.
Estudiantes quickly seized the opportunity. In their announcement, the Madrid club expressed joy in welcoming a player « experienced and versatile, » capable of bringing danger to the perimeter game. Berkani, who averaged 6.9 points per game last season in EuroLeague with Venice, will fill in for the injured Kristina Topuzovic.
A French-Spanish duel from the first round
By coincidence, Estudiantes Madrid has been drawn in the same group as Angers for the first round of Women’s EuroCup. This match will have special meaning for Berkani, now a direct opponent of a French club in European competition. In the first leg, UFAB 49 won in the Spanish capital.
Angers will thus meet a well-known figure of French basketball in the return match. For Lisa Berkani, this will be an opportunity to confirm that her European career is still going strong, following successful experiences in Belgium and Italy.
French players attracted to Liga Endesa Femenina
With Lisa Berkani, the list of French players in Spain continues to grow. Following Ornella Bankolé, Kendra Chery, and Clémentine Samson among others, the point guard joins an increasingly attractive championship. Liga Endesa Femenina appeals through its level, media exposure, and recent financial stability, becoming a preferred destination for French players.
