LeBron James once again demonstrated his exceptional adaptability. At 41 years old, the Lakers legend scored 30 points in the 111-103 victory against the Pelicans, but it was his post-game speech that drew the most attention. James clearly established the hierarchy within the California team.

« Luka doesn’t need to adapt his game for me, » James stated. « Luka is our 26-year-old franchise player for this team. He doesn’t need to adapt his game. It’s up to us to adapt around him and find the solution. »

A Formidable Duo Growing Stronger

The chemistry between James and Doncic improves with each game. Both scored 30 points against New Orleans, marking the second time in three games that the duo surpassed this symbolic milestone. This performance is part of a three-game winning streak for Los Angeles, despite the absences of Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura.

« He’s been absolutely incredible, » Doncic said about his veteran teammate. « He helps me, helps others, and is super efficient with his shots. That’s Bron. He can do everything. We’re playing better together, game after game. And it’s only going to get better. »

James is currently experiencing a hot streak after a difficult start related to his sciatica. He has scored 25 points or more seven times in the Lakers’ last 12 games, averaging 29 points on 58.8% shooting during this winning streak.

JJ Redick’s Subtle Management

Coach JJ Redick found an apt metaphor to describe his collaboration with James: « He’s like Greg Maddux late in his career. Every night, he doesn’t necessarily have his best stuff, but he has enough to win. I’m his catcher. »

This personalized approach is paying off. James led an 8-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter, erasing the Pelicans’ seven-point lead thanks to two crucial 3-pointers. Doncic then sealed the victory with his own long-range shots.

With this success, the Lakers maintain their third-place position in the West (23-11), behind Oklahoma City (30-7) and San Antonio (25-11). The California franchise seems to have found its balance, with James fully embracing his mentor role while maintaining his decisive impact on the court.
