The Sacramento Kings have just announced news that won’t help their situation. Keegan Murray will be absent from the courts for at least three to four weeks due to a left ankle sprain. An injury that occurred Sunday night during the game against the Bucks adds to the misfortunes of a franchise in complete disarray.
An injury that comes at the worst time
The incident occurred at 4:01 remaining in the third quarter, when Murray landed awkwardly after driving to the basket. The player immediately grabbed his left ankle in pain and had to be helped off the court, limping back to the locker room.
This injury represents another major blow to a Kings team already in great difficulty this season. The team has a catastrophic record of 8 wins and 28 losses and has just strung together five consecutive defeats with double-digit margins. With a point differential of -12, Sacramento currently has the worst statistics in the NBA in this area.
For Murray, this injury breaks a remarkable streak of durability. The forward had played 231 games out of 246 possible during his first three NBA seasons, demonstrating exemplary consistency. However, his fourth campaign has turned into a nightmare: he had already missed the first 15 games of the season due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.

A major Kings investment in difficulty
Murray’s absence weighs even heavier as the Kings have invested massively in their young talent. Last October, the franchise offered him a five-year contract extension worth $140 million, tying him to Sacramento through the 2030-2031 season.
In his 19 appearances this season, Murray was averaging 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Even more revealing of his importance to the system: he ranked fifth in the NBA for playing time with 35.9 minutes per game. This ankle injury could keep him off the courts for the entire month of January, depriving the Kings of one of their few positive points in this season to forget.
