Kon Knueppel continues to write history for the Charlotte Hornets. The 20-year-old rookie set a new franchise record for most three-pointers made in a single season during Thursday night’s 127-107 victory against the Phoenix Suns. With 261 three-pointers made, he now surpasses the mark of 260 set by Kemba Walker during the 2018-2019 season.

The fourth overall pick in the NBA 2025 draft from Duke hit his 261st three-pointer on a corner shot after missing two open attempts earlier in the fourth quarter. The Charlotte crowd erupted when Knueppel finally found the target on an assist from Grant Williams. The rookie finished the game with 20 points on 7/14 shooting and 4/9 from three-point range.

A Historic Performance That Boosts His Rookie of the Year Candidacy

This remarkable performance significantly strengthens Knueppel’s candidacy for Rookie of the Year. He is now the bookmakers’ favorite, well ahead of his former Duke teammate Cooper Flagg. The young guard is averaging an impressive 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in 75 games played this season.

Knueppel already holds the NBA record for most three-pointers made by a rookie, having surpassed the mark set by Keegan Murray back in February. With five games remaining on the Hornets schedule and an average of 3.4 three-pointers per game, he is on pace to finish the season with 277 three-pointers in a single season, which would place him 20th in NBA history.

Hornets coach Charles Lee celebrated this achievement by pouring water on his rookie’s head before his post-game press conference. This performance comes during an excellent stretch for Charlotte, which has won seven of its last nine games and currently holds the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 41-36 record, moving closer to their first playoff appearance since 2015-2016.
