Jordan Loyd does it again: Poland beats Israel and remains undefeated at EuroBasket

Poland secured an intense victory against Israel (66-64) in a spectacular game that kept 9,000 spectators at the Spodek Arena on the edge of their seats until the final second. The co-hosts of EuroBasket 2025 remain undefeated after two days of competition.
Loydinski back at it again
Just like Thursday against Slovenia, Jordan Loyd once again carried Poland on his shoulders with an exceptional performance of 27 points, making 5 three-pointers out of 8 attempts. After scoring 32 points in the opening game against Slovenia, the American shooting guard confirms his status as the offensive leader of this Polish team.
The turning point came in the final minutes. When Israel took the lead 64-62 thanks to a three-pointer by Khadeen Carrington with 1:12 remaining, Loyd tied the game with a drive to the basket. On the next possession, he gave Poland the decisive lead by scoring on an offensive rebound from his own missed shot, making it 66-64 with 13 seconds left. On the other end, Deni Avdija couldn’t respond with a final three-point attempt.

Captain Mateusz Ponitka gave himself a nice birthday present with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, contributing to Poland’s dominance on the boards (51-40).
Deni Avdija keeps Israel in the game
For Israel, Deni Avdija delivered an outstanding performance with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, playing in front of his Portland coach, Chauncey Billups. The forward particularly shined in the third quarter by scoring 16 points, helping his team come back from a 14-point deficit.
Despite 17 turnovers, Poland found the necessary resources to win, particularly thanks to their rebounding superiority. Igor Milicic’s team led for 30 minutes and 41 seconds of the game, compared to only 4 minutes and 41 seconds for Israel.
With this victory, Poland joins France at the top of Group D with a perfect 2-0 record. The co-hosts will face Iceland in their next game, while Israel (1-1) will take on the undefeated French team on August 31st at 5:00 PM. Tuesday evening, France and Israel will meet at the Spodek.
