An injury occurring during the All-Star break

According to the official statement from the Sixers, Embiid felt this right shin soreness while participating in a management program for his right knee injury during the All-Star break. After consulting with doctors, the seven-time All-Star received daily treatment while progressing in his on-court work and physical conditioning.

The Philadelphia organization specified that Embiid will be reevaluated before the two consecutive weekend games, Saturday in New Orleans and Sunday at Minnesota. This new absence comes after he had already missed the last two games before the break due to right knee soreness.

A major impact on team performance

The statistics speak for themselves: the Sixers have lost six of their last seven games without Embiid. This season, the Cameroonian center is averaging 26.6 points in 31 games, finally freed from the playing time restrictions that had hampered him in recent seasons.

Embiid’s absence weighs heavily on a team that has 30 wins and 24 losses. Coach Nick Nurse had stated that Embiid « was present a little bit » at Wednesday’s practice and that he « looked pretty good, » but this new shin soreness came to complicate the situation.

This new injury adds to Embiid’s long medical history, who has experienced multiple injuries since even before his arrival in the NBA. Stress fracture in the right foot, bone bruise, torn meniscus, broken orbital bone, dislocated shoulder, tendinitis, torn ligaments, and even Bell’s palsy have marked his career. Despite these recurring problems, the 76ers granted him a three-year extension in 2024 for $193 million with a player option for the 2028-2029 season.
