Jaylen Brown Rips Into Officiating After Loss to Spurs

Jaylen Brown didn’t mince words after the Boston Celtics’ loss to the San Antonio Spurs (100-95). The 29-year-old guard sharply criticized the game’s officiating, pointing out a glaring difference in how the two teams were treated.
Free Throw Discrepancy Sparks Controversy
The statistic that set Jaylen Brown off is telling: Boston attempted only 4 free throws compared to San Antonio’s 20. A disparity the Celtics wing finds abnormal, especially since he personally didn’t get a single free throw despite repeatedly attacking the rim.
« Honestly, I think they let them get away with a lot and I’m tired of this inconsistency, » Brown told the press. « I’ll take the fine. There was too much bullshit tonight. The Spurs are a good defensive team, but they’re not that good! »
Jaylen Brown said he is irate at the officiating:
« I’ll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bullshit tonight. »
« The inconsistency is fucking crazy. Give me the fine. » pic.twitter.com/4R7L27fDj1

The Celtics guard was particularly upset with lead referee Curtis Blair and his crew. « Curtis and the other guys were terrible. I don’t care. They can fine me. It’s crazy, like every time we play a good team, » he added, fully accepting the financial consequences of his comments.
Difficult Fourth Quarter for Brown
Beyond his officiating criticism, Jaylen Brown had a tough end to the game with only 1 made basket on 9 attempts and 2 turnovers in the final quarter. Despite this disappointing performance, he maintains that inconsistent officiating weighed on the game’s outcome.
« If we can’t get to the free throw line and opponents can be physical and prevent us from getting to our spots, then it’s hard to win games like this, » he explained. « I attack the rim, I’m physical, I don’t flop, I’m not afraid of contact. I go hard, I’m athletic and I get nothing. »
This media outburst from Brown follows a series of repeated criticisms of officiating since he’s taken on an increased leadership role in Jayson Tatum’s absence. A growing frustration that could cost him dearly financially, but one he fully accepts.
