Devin Booker Ignites the Third Quarter
The Suns got off to the best start with an 8-0 run, led by Jalen Green and his authoritative dunk. Boston quickly responded thanks to Jaylen Brown’s aggressiveness and Derrick White’s shooting touch, who scored 19 first-half points with four 3-pointers in the second quarter alone.
But it was in the third quarter that Devin Booker delivered a memorable offensive performance. The Suns guard scored 23 consecutive points for his team spanning the second and third quarters, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the field. This exceptional streak allowed Phoenix to stay in the game despite the Celtics’ 3-point accuracy (13-for-24 at halftime).
Jaylen Brown Clutch in Crunch Time
The final quarter turned into a fierce battle. Payton Pritchard gave Boston a ten-point lead with a 3-pointer from 31 feet, but Phoenix responded through Haywood Highsmith (16 points in 19 minutes) and Jordan Goodwin to retake the lead with less than five minutes remaining.
That’s when Jaylen Brown took charge. The Celtics forward scored 18 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter, essentially living at the free-throw line (19-for-21, a career high) as the Boston crowd chanted « MVP. » After stealing the ball from Booker to set up Jayson Tatum, Brown grabbed a crucial offensive rebound to put his team back ahead.
The Suns collapsed in the final minutes, scoring only two points in the last five minutes while committing several costly turnovers. Boston finished with a 12-1 run to win this playoff contender battle.
This victory allows the Celtics (45-23) to strengthen their position atop the Eastern Conference standings, while the Suns suffer their second consecutive loss despite 40 points from their leader Devin Booker.
