Limoges CSP returned to winning ways last Saturday, defeating Élan Chalon-sur-Saône 95-83 at Beaublanc. After a great game (28 points, 5 rebounds), Leon Stergar (1.92 m, 25 years old) discussed this victory just minutes before his team’s departure for Monaco. Always composed, the Slovenian international answered our questions about his integration into the team and his current form.

In the last game against Chalon, the team played well, but you showed a particularly high level of play.

I think it was the whole team that showed a high level of play. Everyone knew how important this game was and we all played well.

Did you feel like something clicked through this game, for the following ones?

We all know that Monaco is a great team. They are well prepared and we’re playing away and it’s going to be very difficult for us to play at their place.

But you’re in great form Leon…

Yes, I train hard, I do my best every day. I do my best to deliver good performances. I believe in myself, that’s all.

You put a lot of intensity into the last game. After a complicated first part of the season, end of 2025, it’s important to maintain it to get more wins in the upcoming games and move up in the standings.

Of course, it’s important to give everything in every game. That should not be questioned. We try to give the best of ourselves every day and in every game. That’s what we have to do as professional players.

« The French championship is really a step above (the Belgian championship) »

Leon Stergar, Slovenian international and Betclic ELITE rookie

Isn’t there a bit of frustration playing against a team like Monaco without having your full roster?

Yes, of course there is. But I think all the players who make the trip will do their best. It’s not the first time we’re not at full strength. Everyone will fight.

What do you think of the French championship, which you’re discovering this season?

It’s a very physical championship, with a lot of good players. In my opinion, compared to my experience last year in the Belgian championship, the French championship is really a step above.

What will your team have to do to have a chance of beating this Monaco team?

Personally, just be relaxed. Because they are favorites, they’re playing at home, it’s a great team, their players are among the best in EuroLeague, not just the French championship. We have nothing else to do but go there relaxed, play our game. Against opponents of such quality, you have to go without pressure.

A few words about Dario Gjergja’s coaching… What’s it like to work with him?

You know, all coaches are different. You have to focus and accept to work on everything you’re asked. He’s a great coach, there would be a lot to say, and we train hard. That’s how we can win.
