The Detroit Pistons secured a valuable but difficult victory over the Phoenix Suns (108-105) at Little Caesars Arena. This game marked the return of four major players: Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart, all back from injury for this crucial matchup.

Duncan Robinson shines, Cunningham struggles on return

Duncan Robinson led the Pistons’ offense with 19 points, while Jalen Duren posted an impressive double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Tobias Harris added 16 points and 7 rebounds, confirming his importance in Detroit’s system. Jaden Ivey, coming off the bench, contributed 15 crucial points.

Cade Cunningham‘s return after missing two games proved difficult. Despite a double-double (10 points, 11 assists), the star point guard had a tough shooting night with only 3 makes on 16 attempts, 0 for 7 from 3-point range and 4 of 9 from the free-throw line.

A thrilling finish

The Pistons had to work hard in the final quarter to pull out this victory. With 20 seconds remaining, Grayson Allen missed two consecutive 3-pointers on the same possession that could have brought Phoenix within one point. Ron Holland then missed a free throw with 13.2 seconds left, making it 107-102.

The tension remained high until the very end. After another missed 3-pointer by Allen and two missed free throws by Holland, the Suns player finally hit from deep with 3.1 seconds left to cut the deficit to 107-105. Duncan Robinson sealed the victory by converting a free throw, while Allen’s final 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed completely.

This victory gives the Pistons a 29-10 record, tying the second-best start through 39 games in franchise history with the 2007-2008 team. Detroit solidifies its first place in the East with a 5-game lead over the New York Knicks and 8 games over Cleveland in the Central division.
