Isaïa Cordinier not planning to sign with Monaco, Roca Team prepares for busy summer

EuroLeague - Despite reports linking him to Monaco, Isaïa Cordinier is not actually planning to join the Roca Team. The principality club is nevertheless preparing for an active transfer window, with the imminent arrival of Kevarrius Hayes and several expected departures, including questions about Mike James' future with the club.

Isaïa Cordinier (1.96m, 28 years old) likely won’t wear AS Monaco’s jersey next season. While the Corriere di Bologna reported on Sunday June 22nd his arrival in the Principality for three years and five million euros, this information is actually incorrect. The French international guard is looking at other opportunities, particularly the NBA, and is not in the Roca Team’s immediate plans.

Cordinier heading for American adventure?

After four solid seasons at Virtus Bologna (2021 to 2025), Isaïa Cordinier is a free agent this summer. Despite strong links to AS Monaco, the former Nanterre and Antibes player is unlikely to settle in Monaco. DAZN consultant Stephen Brun revealed during the Betclic ELITE finals between Paris and Monaco that the French player « had other objectives » than signing in the principality. This information was confirmed by Nice-Matin, which specified that the club hasn’t made him an official offer and that Cordinier wants to explore other opportunities, possibly in the NBA. During the season, Real Madrid had also shown interest in the French player.

Monaco preparing for major summer changes

This twist in the Cordinier case is just one of many tasks AS Monaco will face this summer. According to our information, the club plans to part ways with several contracted players, starting with Nick Calathes, Donatas Motiejunas, and Georgios Papagiannis. Questions remain about Jordan Loyd, who was released last summer then recalled at the start of the season and had a mixed year. Rarely used, Vitto Brown and Juhann Begarin are under contract until 2026 and 2027 respectively. Yoan Makoundou also has one year left on his contract but hopes to sign with FC Barcelona. An agreement needs to be reached with Monaco, who haven’t contacted him all season. Finally, Mouhammadou Jaiteh (2.11m, 30 years old) is expected to join Dubai BC. A significant roster overhaul is therefore on the horizon, following a season without titles.

Another major question concerns the coaching position. After a titleless season, does Vassilis Spanoulis – whose name has been strongly linked with Olympiacos – still have management’s confidence? Finally, handling the Mike James situation – whether reconciliation or separation – will be crucial in structuring Monaco’s squad for the coming season. Nice-Matin revealed that discussions were set to begin this Wednesday between both parties. What’s certain is that one of the Roca Team star guard’s friends, Nikola Mirotic (2.08m, 34 years old), has already signed. Kevarrius Hayes (2.06m, 28 years old), French champion with Paris, should follow. With an increasing budget – despite some outstanding bills for the Fedcom group – Monaco will need to enter the free agent market, continuing to pay players premium wages.
