Hugo Benitez (1.92m, 24 years old) started his season strong with Manresa: on Sunday, September 21, the French international won the Lliga Catalana after a victory (83-79) against Ricky Rubio’s Joventut Badalona, being named MVP of the final.

Benitez decisive in crunch time

Manresa secured their fourth Lliga Catalana title, but they had to resist Joventut’s attacks until the end. Led by a solid team effort, Diego Ocampo’s men took the lead in the first quarter (26-19), maintaining a slight advantage at halftime (40-35).

After returning from the locker room, Badalona caught up twice, but a 14-3 run by the Catalans gave Manresa some breathing room (65-56, 30th minute). Despite a final push from Kyle Hunt, Ricky Rubio and their teammates in the last two minutes, the home team held on, with Dani Pérez sealing the victory at the free-throw line.
