Juhann Begarin Seizes His Moment at Monaco

Juhann Begarin is starting to reap the rewards of his patience at Monaco. With the roster depleted by injuries to Yoan Makoundou and Daniel Theis, the Monaco hierarchy has been slightly reorganized. Alpha Diallo has moved down a position to strengthen the interior, freeing up minutes on the wing. An opportunity that Begarin has seized, standing out in the Roca Team’s last two outings.
Minutes and Rediscovered Efficiency
Against Nancy, Juhann Begarin had his best offensive game of the season. In 18 minutes, he compiled 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in Monaco’s victory (93-79). This is his season high in points, while matching his assist record.

The wing thus surpassed the 10-point mark for the first time since November 16, when he scored 11 points against Le Mans.
Following that, against BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque on Tuesday, the former Paris and Nanterre player confirmed with a complete stat line: 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in 21 minutes, during Monaco’s dominant victory (101-82). He again matched his assist record, but also his steal record, illustrating his impact on both ends of the floor.

An Expanding Role in the Rotation
At 23, Juhann Begarin has a limited role in the Roca Team’s rotation. The former French National Team training center player was considered a high-potential prospect when younger, to the point of being drafted into the NBA. But after a mixed 2023-2024 season at Nanterre – though with a Leaders Cup finals appearance – he joined AS Monaco Basket in the 2024 offseason.
His defensive energy, versatility at the 3 position and ability to give the starters a breather in Betclic ELITE could have helped him take a step forward in a highly competitive environment. But instead, he has often been sidelined, even in league play, much like another wing with locally trained player (JFL) status, Terry Tarpey.

Monaco on a Roll
However, stuck in their recruitment, limited in number of JFLs, and with an overloaded schedule, AS Monaco increasingly needs to look at who the players on their bench are. Thus, in 2025-2026, Juhann Begarin has entered the game 14 times out of 15 regular season contests. Except for two early-season games against Elan Chalon (8 minutes) and ASVEL (6), the 2002 generation prospect has always played a minimum of 14 minutes. Quiet throughout December, as shown in his game at Cholet (0 points on 0/5 shooting, 1 rebound and 2 assists in 23 minutes), he this time seized the opportunity to show he’s not just a supporting player to superstars.
Begarin’s performances come during a particularly favorable period for Monaco. The Roca Team is on a nine-game winning streak across all competitions and currently dominates Betclic ELITE (first despite their penalty, six straight wins).

On the European stage, Monaco is also surging. The club has taken second place in EuroLeague with a record of 14 wins and 7 losses, just behind Hapoel Tel-Aviv (14-6), tied with Valencia Basket and ahead of FC Barcelona Basket.
An Important Test Coming Up
The momentum will be tested this Thursday, January 15, with a highly anticipated EuroLeague clash against Paris Basketball. A return to the capital for Begarin and another chance for him to confirm he can be a real X-factor on a Monaco team running at full speed.
