The Brooklyn Nets’ nightmare season hit a new low Thursday night in Miami, as they fell 126-110 to the Heat for their 10th consecutive loss. Tyler Herro paced Miami with 25 points, while Bam Adebayo contributed 21 in a dominant performance that showcased the gulf between playoff-hungry teams and basement dwellers.
For the Heat (34-29), this victory marked their sixth win in eight games, pushing them five games over .500 for the first time since early December. Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 18 points, while Pelle Larsson and Kel’el Ware each contributed 16. Ware was particularly impactful with 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots, repeatedly rejecting Brooklyn’s attempts at the rim.
Michael Porter Jr. shines in losing effort
Despite the lopsided result, Michael Porter Jr. delivered a standout performance for Brooklyn with 27 points and 13 rebounds. His 10th 20-point double-double of the season breaks a tie with 2020-21 for his career high in any single campaign. Porter Jr. shot 9-24 from the field and connected on 7-13 attempts from beyond the arc, providing the Nets’ primary offensive spark.
« You just look at the rebounding, 13 rebounds, and then winning plays, » said Nets coach Jordi Fernández. « Like, he sprinted in transition defensively and got the deflection towards the end of the third quarter. Just things like this, when I see Mike so engaged, and then when he thinks about rebounding, about cutting, and playing as far as he can defensively, then shots go in. »
The Nets briefly seized momentum in the third quarter, taking their first lead since the opening minutes with an 8-0 run. However, when Adebayo picked up his fourth and fifth fouls just 30 seconds apart, any hopes of an upset quickly evaporated. Herro responded with 12 third-quarter points to counter Porter Jr.’s production and restore Miami’s control.
Brooklyn’s familiar demons resurfaced early, as they committed seven turnovers in their first 11 possessions. Though rookies Nolan Traoré and Ben Saraf played cleaner basketball than in Tuesday’s meeting, the Nets still finished with 19 turnovers overall. Miami capitalized with a 54-34 advantage in bench scoring while shooting 53% from the field.
The loss extends Brooklyn’s longest slide since the 2021-22 season, when they dropped 11 straight games. They join Sacramento, Washington, Indiana, Chicago, and Dallas as the sixth team this season to endure a losing streak of 10 or more games. The Nets will look to end their misery Saturday when they visit Detroit.
