Memphis makes history with 29 three-pointers made, tying the NBA record, but it wasn't enough to avoid a 142-126 loss to Cleveland in a spectacular offensive showcase.

The Memphis Grizzlies made history by tying the NBA record for three-pointers made in a single game with 29. Despite this exceptional performance, the Tennessee team fell 142-126 to the Cleveland Cavaliers in an offensively one-sided contest.

A Historic Record That Wasn’t Enough to Win

Nine Grizzlies players hit at least one three-pointer in the game, shooting a remarkable 49.2% from beyond the arc (29 of 59 attempts). This record was previously held jointly by the Milwaukee Bucks, who hit 29 threes in a 144-97 win at Miami on December 29, 2020, and the Boston Celtics, who matched that mark in a 132-109 victory over the New York Knicks on October 22, 2024.

“I think we can be pretty proud of the way we played with this group today on the floor,” said Memphis head coach Tuomas Iisalo. “The guys wanted to go all the way, and we were all for it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t set a new record outright, but we tied it. Still, very proud of our group.”

Memphis’s bench players shone in this exercise, with Adama Bal and Dariq Whitehead each hitting six three-pointers. Lucas Williamson went 5-of-12 from long range, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper was perfect, going 4-of-5 from deep.

Cleveland Holds On Despite the Offensive Fireworks

The Cavaliers managed to hold their ground despite the barrage of threes, hitting 12 of their own 32 long-range attempts. “Incredible shooting performance by the Grizzlies. You have to give them credit,” acknowledged Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson. “They shot the lights out.”

This defeat marks the Grizzlies’ 18th loss in their last 20 games, confirming their difficult season. The Memphis team, which averaged 13.7 three-pointers made per game before this contest, more than doubled their usual output in that department.

Memphis’s three-point production was spread throughout the game: 10 in the first quarter, 3 in the second, 6 in the third, and 10 in the fourth. Despite this remarkable efficiency from deep, the Grizzlies paradoxically shot worse inside the arc, converting just 45.7% (16 of 35).

Ja Morantt also drew attention as he left FedEx Forum after this final home game of the season. The point guard, who recently sold his Tennessee home, flashed peace signs to the fans as he headed to the locker room.
