Player Profile
When Olivier-Maxence Prosper stepped onto the court for his first NBA start on April 14, 2024, he carried far more than a Dallas Mavericks jersey on his shoulders. With 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, the Montreal-born forward delivered a performance that perfectly encapsulates his journey: that of a player who has always known how to turn challenges into opportunities.
Born into a family where basketball runs in the blood, Prosper grew up watching his mother — a former RSEQ All-Star who represented Canada internationally — and his sister Cassandre playing at Notre Dame. But it is far from Montreal that his destiny took shape. At 16, he left Quebec for Lake Forest Academy in Illinois, then for the NBA Academy Latin America in Mexico, forging his determination through the hardship of living abroad.
His college career illustrates this ability to adapt: after a first year at Clemson, he transferred to Marquette where he truly flourished. That maturity caught the attention of NBA scouts, who selected him 24th overall in the 2023 Draft. Immediately traded to Dallas, Prosper quickly discovered the demands of the highest level.
His first NBA season revealed a versatile player capable of contributing at both ends of the floor. Playing a part in the Mavericks' run to the 2024 NBA Finals, he gained invaluable experience despite the loss to the Celtics. A wrist injury in March 2025 abruptly interrupted his progress, but knowing his journey, it is just one more step in the rise of a player well accustomed to bouncing back.
