Despite the early playoff elimination of the Seattle Storm, Dominique Malonga can be proud of her first WNBA season. At just 19, the youngest player in league history had an « incredible » experience that reinforces her choice of franchise.

« When I was drafted here, it was precisely to build something. And the season I’ve had has been incredible. I can’t see myself anywhere else, » says the former ASVEL Féminin player. « I’m excited for next season to continue growing with this franchise, because everyone here has welcomed me so warmly. »

Promising performances against the world’s best players

Averaging 8.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game, Dominique Malonga gradually found her place in the Storm‘s roster. Her most memorable moment remains her decisive basket in Game 2 against the Las Vegas Aces, giving Seattle a precious victory.

Against A’ja Wilson, four-time MVP and absolute reference at her position, the French-Cameroonian held her own. « My matchups against A’ja were a great opportunity for me because I learned so much in just a few minutes defending her, » she explains. « For me, it was perhaps one of the most beautiful games of my life in terms of emotions. »

Coach Noelle Quinn – who wasn’t extended – and her teammates Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike praised the rookie’s exceptional maturity. « Dom is hoopin’. She’s ready, » Quinn declared, highlighting her adaptability and constant desire to learn.

Heading to Europe with Fenerbahçe

Now, it’s time for the European season where Dominique Malonga will join Gabby Williams at Fenerbahçe Istanbul. « This will be my first European season in EuroLeague so I’m excited to see what it’s like on the big stage in Europe, » she says.

This European experience perfectly aligns with her philosophy of continuous improvement. « I remain focused on my progress, » concludes the young center, who has already made history by becoming the youngest player to compete in the WNBA.
