At 39, David Holston remains loyal to JDA Dijon. The American point guard, MVP of Betclic ELITE in 2018-2019, chose to extend for one year with the Burgundian club despite a 2024-2025 season marked by injuries. This Thursday, during the first training session open to the press (including Ici Bourgogne), he discussed his decision to continue and the doubts that crossed his mind in recent months.

JDA Dijon keeps its legend David Holston: one last dance for the point guard!

« I wanted to come back and not end like this »

David Holston went through six very difficult months, marked by thrombosis and then a calf injury. The veteran doesn’t hide that he thought about hanging up his sneakers: « I had a lot of doubts, I didn’t know where I was in my life, whether I would stop playing or not. A part of me wanted to give up because I didn’t know what to do with this injury. I had to reflect on myself, talk to my family, to God. » Finally, he chose to extend to try to move forward: « Last year didn’t go as I wanted, with two injuries, and I didn’t want to end like that. I wanted to come back and try to play like I always have, to help the team win. »

A shared role with Justin Bibbins

For this new season, Dijon has entrusted the keys to the game to Justin Bibbins (5’8″, 29 years old). Holston welcomes this choice with serenity: « It’s cool for me, Justin takes some pressure off! I’m really happy to play with him, he’s an excellent point guard. We talk a lot, we play the same way, so he helps me as much as I help him. »

Despite a lesser role, the former MVP remains ambitious: « I’ll take any title, no matter which one! That’s what I play for, to win and bring another trophy to Dijon. »

A season to savor day by day

While many wonder if this season will be his last in a Dijon jersey, Holston refuses to anticipate: « You never know what the future holds, I’m going to do everything I can, practice after practice and see where it takes me. I don’t want to say too early that it’s my last year, I need to see how my body feels. »

Jeanne’s supporters will be able to see their point guard back in action soon, starting Tuesday, August 26 in Nuits-Saint-Georges against Saint-Chamond, for JDA Dijon’s first preparation game.
