David Adelman Discusses Nuggets’ Playoff Preparation

Less than a month from the end of the regular season, the Denver Nuggets are preparing for the playoffs with the ambition of reaching the NBA finals. However, coach David Adelman remains realistic about the challenges facing his team, especially after a season disrupted by numerous injuries since November.
More Time to Prepare, But First Secure Qualification
Asked about the time needed to prepare an ambitious playoff campaign, Adelman was direct in his response. « As much [time] as possible, and also we need to qualify for the playoffs to be in a playoff round, » declared the coach before facing the Philadelphia 76ers.
This franchise, which has not been able to perform at 100% capacity since November, faces a significant disadvantage compared to other top teams in the league. Denver will need time to allow this rotation to find its rhythm before the end of the regular season.
Aaron Gordon’s Return, A Breath of Fresh Air
Adelman is nevertheless satisfied with recent progress, particularly since Aaron Gordon‘s return after more than a month’s absence. « It’s good, nothing replaces repetition, just having Aaron [Gordon]’s minutes has been good for us. I think the game against the Lakers was important because we had him play both ways he’ll play in big moments, meaning as a starting power forward and within our second unit, » explained the coach.
Gordon particularly impressed late in the game: « He was really good I think in the fourth quarter with Jamal [Murray], with him and Spence [Jones] being the false four and five. Those kinds of things prove really interesting. »
The turbulence of this Nuggets season can largely be explained by growing pains due to the inconsistency of their lineup caused by multiple injuries to key players. « All these things are essential to finding a rhythm with your team, » continued Adelman. « With Peyton Watson it will be the same thing, with the number of games remaining. When he comes back, it will be good for everyone. »
