Courted by Pau, Carl Ponsar towards a new challenge after record season with ASA

Carl Ponsar, 28-year-old French power forward, is coming off a strong season with Alliance Sport Alsace, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer. While his club competes in the Pro B semifinals, he is naturally attracting interest, including from Élan Béarnais, recently eliminated by ASA in the promotion playoffs.
Carl Ponsar, proven Pro B reference
Left-handed, scoring power forward with good shooting touch, Carl Ponsar (2.03 m) has established himself as one of the best at his position in Pro B. After having his progression long hindered by injuries, the Norman player revived his career with Alliance Sport Alsace, where he broke the club’s all-time scoring record (889 points) last April. Averaging 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 34 games this season, he has greatly contributed to ASA’s strong campaign, currently in the playoff semifinals.
Pau aims for continuity with Speight
In addition to the Ponsar case, Pau-Lacq-Orthez hopes to secure Micah Speight (1.78 m, 26 years) to form a strong duo with Thomas Cornely at point guard. Recruited mid-season, the American point guard quickly established himself as a key player for the Béarnais team. He averaged 11.2 points, 4 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 25 games.
President Guillaume Berbinau stated in Sud-Ouest: « I won’t hide my desire, and that of the coach and many others, to keep Micah Speight, a fantastic player (…) I hope we’ll find common ground. » A statement that shows the player’s impact both on and off the court.
As Pau looks to rebuild with identifiable players committed to the project, signing a player like Ponsar – along with retaining Speight – would give substance to an ambitious team for 2025-2026. It remains to be seen if the club’s desires will align with the realities of what promises to be a highly competitive summer market.
