The Atlanta Hawks secured a prestigious victory Wednesday night with a 117-106 win on the road against the Boston Celtics. This remarkable collective performance allows the Hawks to get their revenge after the heavy 132-106 defeat suffered at home on January 17 during the last meeting between the two teams.

Alexander-Walker leads Hawks offense with 21 points

Nickeil Alexander-Walker was the spearhead of Atlanta’s attack with 21 points. He was perfectly supported by Jalen Johnson, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Onyeka Okongwu (17 points), Dyson Daniels (15 points) and Corey Kispert (13 points) also contributed to this fourth consecutive victory for the Hawks.

3-point shooting made the difference for Atlanta, which converted 42.9% of their attempts from beyond the arc (18 of 42) against only 26.5% for Boston (9 of 34). The Hawks’ team play was also evident with 29 assists on 45 made baskets, demonstrating fluid and shared basketball.

Total domination from the start of the game

Hawks coach Quin Snyder was asked before the game about the possibility that his team would remember the January 17 defeat. His response was clear: « You can feel it. » His players immediately took control of the game.

Atlanta created a 21-point lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to a 3-pointer from Alexander-Walker. The lead even grew to 22 points (60-38) in the second quarter on a three-pointer from Kispert, before Boston slightly reduced the gap with an 8-0 run at the end of the first half.

For Boston, Jaylen Brown finished as the leading scorer with 21 points on 9 of 20 shooting and 0 of 5 from 3-point range. The Celtics never managed to get closer than 12 points in the second half. Coach Joe Mazzulla pulled his starters and many fans left the stands with more than 4 minutes remaining, as Atlanta led 115-96.

Of note is the absence of Kristaps Porzingis, former Celtics player and 2024 NBA champion now with the Hawks, who is suffering from left Achilles tendinitis and did not make the trip. The Hawks will host Houston Thursday night, while Boston will host Sacramento Friday.
