The NBA summer sometimes brings unpleasant surprises. Marcus Morris, former forward who played for several franchises including the Heat, Celtics and Clippers, was arrested at Miami airport this Sunday. TMZ revealed this arrest following the issuance of an out-of-state warrant for alleged fraud.
The former player, away from the courts since being cut by the Knicks early last season to make room for Karl-Anthony Towns, finds himself in the news column again. This arrest comes as he had been making multiple TV appearances this season, not hesitating to give controversial opinions about the Thunder or Nikola Jokic.

Casino debt behind the arrest
Amid speculations, his twin brother Markieff Morris quickly responded on social media to clarify the situation. « The way this is being presented is totally crazy, » wrote Markieff Morris. « Damn, for such an amount of money, they’ll humiliate you at the airport in front of your family. They’re really making you believe my brother committed fraud. When you hear the real story… All that can be said is that the lesson has been learned. My brother will tell you everything tomorrow. This weird story gave me a headache. »
Yony Noy, agent for both brothers, clarified the situation: « For everyone to understand clearly: there’s no fraud, no bounced check, contrary to what these trashy media outlets are claiming. It’s simply related to an unpaid casino debt. Apparently, if you owe them more than $1,200, they can issue an arrest warrant against you. It’s totally crazy! »
This case raises questions about the financial management of ex-NBA players. Marcus Morris has earned over $106 million, a sum that should protect him from such problems. This arrest shows that many former players still face financial difficulties, despite the income earned during their career.
