Jeff Dowtin Jr. leaves NBA for his first European experience
At 28, Jeff Dowtin Jr. is preparing for his first experience in the Old Continent. Maccabi Tel-Aviv has officially announced the signing of the former Philadelphia 76ers point guard for three seasons. A key addition for the Israeli club, which had already secured Lonnie Walker IV, also a former Sixer.
A versatile and athletic player, Jeff Dowtin played 41 NBA games during the 2024-2025 season with the Sixers, averaging 7 points, 2 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in 15 minutes per game, with a solid 40% three-point shooting. In the G-League, his stats speak for themselves: 24.6 points and 4.1 assists in 17 appearances with the Delaware Blue Coats.
Maccabi’s coach Oded Kattash expressed his enthusiasm: « He’s an athletic guard who can create for himself and others. His basketball IQ will help him adapt to European basketball. We’re convinced he’ll bring energy and a real hunger for success », he stated.
An experienced profile in good company
From Maryland, like Victor Oladipo and Markelle Fultz, Jeff Dowtin Jr. spent four solid seasons at the University of Rhode Island before turning pro. After winning a G-League championship in 2021 with Lakeland, he navigated between the NBA and G-League, passing through six franchises: Golden State, Milwaukee, Orlando, Toronto, Philadelphia… and their affiliate teams.
In Tel-Aviv, he joins an already strong backcourt alongside Lonnie Walker and Oshae Brissett. Two players he knows well from crossing paths in North America. His arrival marks a new step in Maccabi Tel-Aviv’s strategy, which clearly relies on NBA talent to aim high in both EuroLeague and Israeli championship.
