Just months after joining San Antonio, De’Aaron Fox has made his future with the Spurs official. The All-Star point guard signed a four-year contract extension worth $229 million, the maximum possible amount. Rich Paul, his Klutch Sports agent, confirmed the deal to ESPN.

This extension ties Fox to the Spurs through the 2029-2030 season, with no player option in the final year. This full commitment demonstrates the mutual trust between the 27-year-old player and the Texas franchise, which had sacrificed several draft picks to acquire him last February in a three-team trade involving Sacramento and Chicago.
Fox-Wembanyama duo at the heart of Spurs project
The Spurs’ investment in Fox is part of a long-term vision alongside Victor Wembanyama. The two stars only played five games together last season, as Fox underwent finger surgery in March while Wembanyama had to cut his season short due to a venous thrombosis in his shoulder.
In 17 games wearing the Spurs jersey, Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Over the entire 2024-2025 season between Sacramento and San Antonio, he averaged 23.5 points and 6.3 assists, including a 60-point game against Minnesota that set a Kings franchise record.
« When we made this trade, we were obviously aware of the contract situation. We see De’Aaron as someone who can grow with our young players and be a real leader for us, » a Spurs executive told Spotrac last July.
With the arrival of Dylan Harper (2nd pick in 2025 draft) and the presence of Stephon Castle (reigning Rookie of the Year), the Spurs now have a promising backcourt. Fox joins a very exclusive club: he is one of only two players along with Luka Doncic to have averaged more than 20 points, 5 assists, and 1 steal over the last six seasons. This extension marks a new era for San Antonio, who haven’t tasted playoffs since 2019 but harbor great ambitions with this Fox-Wembanyama core.
