A French international player will sign with ASVEL

Bodian Massa (2.08 m, 27 years old) will no longer wear Manresa’s colors but ASVEL’s. The Catalan club chose not to activate his second-year contract option. The French international, who previously played for Fos-sur-Mer, Strasbourg and Bourg-en-Bresse, is now looking for a new challenge.
According to our information, the center reached a final agreement with ASVEL this Thursday afternoon, confirming information shared by Basque journalist Óscar Herreros and earlier by EuroLeague France’s X account. At least one other Spanish club is also interested in the Marseille native, but he should commit to the Rhône club in the coming hours.

ASVEL moves to bring back Bodian Massa
After a mixed but decent season at Manresa, Bodian Massa is back on the market. In Liga Endesa, the center averaged 5.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 28 games. In BCL, he slightly improved his numbers with 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 9 games.
Arriving at Manresa in summer 2024 after playing for Bourg-en-Bresse, Massa wasn’t retained by the Catalan club. This decision was linked to a contractual clause, which leaves the late-blooming Marseille region native free.

A steady trajectory since Pro B
Bodian Massa gradually emerged in professional basketball. After coming through Fos Provence Basket’s youth academy, he discovered Pro B in 2017 before breaking out in the 2020-2021 season (Pro B champion and Leaders Cup winner). His performances opened the doors to Betclic ELITE, with a notable first season (9.5 points and 7.2 rebounds) that propelled him to Strasbourg, then Bourg-en-Bresse.
His strong showings with SIG earned him a spot in the French national team during the February 2023 international window, alongside Victor Wembanyama.
Free and sought-after, the defensive-minded center who’s solid in the paint could return to the French top flight in summer 2025. ASVEL, looking to strengthen its frontcourt after Neal Sako’s departure to Valencia, would be bringing in a player already familiar with Betclic ELITE. However, two other clubs are also interested, particularly in Spain.
