Tension has risen a notch at AS Monaco. Beaten on Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul Istanbul’s court (88-70) during the 30th round of EuroLeague, the Roca Team experienced another delicate episode off the court with an altercation between Mike James and Élie Okobo on the Monaco bench.

Altercation Between Mike James and Elie Okobo on the Bench

As he was returning to the bench during the last unplayed possession, Okobo was confronted by James , visibly very upset. The American star of Monaco waited for his teammate to say a few words before pushing him violently.

The French international didn’t seek to respond physically to this provocation but the two players still had to be separated to prevent the situation from escalating further.

This scene occurs in an already tense context for the Roca Team, which is going through a particularly difficult period.

A Losing Streak for the Roca Team in EuroLeague

On the court of the reigning European champion, Monaco failed to reverse the trend despite a slight comeback in the third quarter (69-62 at the 33rd minute). Vassilis Spanoulis’ team ultimately fell to EuroLeague’s best defense (88-70).

The Roca Team is notably paying for several individual underperformances. Mike James nevertheless tried to take charge, finishing the game with a PIR of 23. Conversely, Elie Okobo struggled again with only 8 points on 1/7 shooting, despite 5 assists.

This defeat is above all the seventh in the last eight European games for Monaco, which now displays one of the competition’s worst records over the past six weeks.

Still 10th, the last qualifying spot for the play-in, the Principality club sees its position becoming increasingly fragile in the race to the final phase.

A Decisive Week for the Club’s Future

Beyond the court, AS Monaco must also manage a major deadline. The club must appear this Friday morning before the Monaco court of first instance for a commercial hearing intended to rule on the viability of its structure.

In this already uncertain context, the altercation between Mike James and Elie Okobo illustrates the tensions currently surrounding Monaco’s end of season.
