The news is encouraging for Victor Wembanyama (7’4″, 22 years old) according to the San Antonio Express-News. The center, who just celebrated his 22nd birthday this Sunday, January 4th, will indeed accompany his team to Tennessee to face Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies, whose participation also remains uncertain, for the game scheduled for Tuesday, January 6th (Wednesday at 2am French time).

Suffering from a knee hyperextension on December 31st during San Antonio’s victory over New York (134-132), Victor Wembanyama underwent reassuring tests the following day. After this scare, he gradually returned to practice until participating in a five-on-five scrimmage this Monday.

The Spurs will follow up with another game the next day, at home against the Lakers, Thursday at 3:30am. The final decision on the French giant’s participation in the game will be confirmed in a few hours, after Tuesday morning’s practice session.

Fifth in the West in All-Star Game voting

A few hours before his injury, the first All-Star Game voting results, scheduled for February 15th, were revealed. The former Metropolitans 92 center is fifth in votes in his conference with nearly 770,000 votes. He is the second big man behind reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.

Luka Doncic leads his conference’s voting with 1,250,000 votes, while on the other side of the country in the East, Giannis Antetokounmpo dominates with just under 1,200,000 votes.
