UConn Women’s Basketball Dominates Georgetown 84-52, Sets New Conference Record

UConn women’s basketball delivered a statement performance at PeoplesBank Arena on Thursday, dismantling Georgetown 84-52 in their final home game of the regular season. The dominant victory not only showcased the Huskies’ championship credentials but also etched their names in the program’s record books.

Fudd and Strong lead balanced attack

Azzi Fudd once again proved her scoring prowess, leading UConn with 24 points while adding five rebounds, four assists and four steals. This marked the seventh time in the last eight games that Fudd has paced the Huskies in scoring, continuing her exceptional late-season form.

Sarah Strong flirted with a triple-double, recording 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in just 23 minutes of action. The efficient performance highlighted Strong’s versatility and impact on both ends of the floor. Supporting the duo, Ashlynn Shade contributed 12 points, marking her ninth double-figure performance in the last 11 outings.

The Huskies’ depth shone through with multiple players making significant contributions. Blanca Quiñonez added 10 points and four steals, while Kayleigh Heckel delivered a perfect shooting night with 11 points on 4-4 field goal attempts. As a team, UConn demonstrated exceptional ball movement, assisting on 24 of their 31 made baskets.

Dominant runs separate the contest

Georgetown managed to keep pace early, utilizing a hot start from beyond the arc. The Hoyas connected on four of their first seven 3-points attempts, staying within single digits throughout the opening quarter and trailing by just one point after 10 minutes.

However, once Georgetown’s shooting cooled down, UConn seized control with overwhelming runs. The Huskies opened the second quarter with an 11-0 burst, with Strong contributing 10 of those points. After Georgetown finally scored, UConn responded with five more points before closing the half on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 23-point lead into the locker room.

The second half brought no relief for the visitors. UConn started with 13 consecutive points, extending their dominance. Over a remarkable 13:06 span between the second and third quarters, the Huskies outscored Georgetown 40-5, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

With this victory, UConn secured its fifth consecutive 30-win season and 29th overall in program history. The Huskies will conclude their regular season Sunday against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
