The Boston Celtics‘ four-game winning streak came to a brutal end on Sunday night with a crushing 102-92 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were without their superstar Anthony Edwards. A catastrophic fourth quarter with just 15 points sank Boston’s chances, unable to find any offensive rhythm in crucial moments.
Questions about Tatum’s integration
Although the Celtics have generally looked decent since Jayson Tatum returned from his Achilles tendon rupture, the team is experiencing dry spells where they seem lost offensively. For Tracy McGrady, NBA Hall of Fame member, Tatum’s sudden return has created problems that Boston will need to solve.
« I don’t want to say it seems off, but their shooting percentage has dropped since he’s been back, » McGrady said after this latest Celtics defeat. « It’s really like ‘guys, what are we doing here? Are we running the same systems as before? Are we still on the same page? Or are we divided because we’re not playing our same game anymore?’ I’m sure there are a lot of mental things these guys are going through because of JT’s insertion. »

Adjustment needed before playoffs
Without Tatum on the court for most of the season, the Celtics had developed a new offensive identity. It’s understandable that the return of a player of his caliber would change the dynamics of that offense. Consequently, Boston is going through uncertain moments as the team discovers in real time what this new offense will look like.
These regular season losses certainly hurt, but as long as the Celtics find their groove before the playoffs, they should be fine. Boston will enjoy a few days of rest before returning to the court Wednesday night for a tough game against the Thunder.
