Having recently arrived in Dubai after two seasons with Monaco and EuroBasket with the French national team, Mouhammadou Jaiteh is not expected to participate in the club’s historic first EuroLeague campaign. Injured in his Achilles tendon during a preseason game this Thursday, September 18, against CSKA Moscow, the French center must undergo surgery that will likely keep him sidelined for several months.
Recruited to bring his experience and impact in the paint, Jaiteh was meant to be a central piece in Dubai’s system as they prepare for their EuroLeague debut. His absence leaves a considerable void in the frontcourt, where the staff will now have to rely on Mfiondu Kabengele, Kenan Kamenjašand Filip Petrušev, among others.
Jaiteh was coming off an impressive season with Monaco. In EuroLeague, he shined in playoffs against Barcelona (averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2 steals) and stood out at the Final Four with a notable performance against Olympiacos (11 points and 6 rebounds) in the semifinals. This summer, he also confirmed his role with the French national team during EuroBasket 2025 (8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds in less than 20 minutes).
For a player who had established himself at the highest level in recent years, this injury appears as a terrible setback. Dubai will have to launch their EuroLeague project without one of their key recruits, while Jaiteh will need to begin a long rehabilitation process to hope to return to his best form.
