The Oklahoma City Thunder are in full control of the Western Conference Finals. Despite losing Jalen Williams to a left hamstring strain in the first quarter, the Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs 122-113 in Game 2, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead. The injury situation on both sides is now a central storyline heading into Game 3.
SGA carries the Thunder through adversity
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the engine Oklahoma City needed. The star guard finished with 30 points, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds in 38 minutes, refusing to let Williams’ absence derail the Thunder’s momentum. The supporting cast stepped up in a major way: Alex Caruso added 17 points in just 25 minutes, while Chet Holmgren chipped in 13 points and 4 rebounds. Jared McCain and Cason Wallace each contributed 12 points, giving OKC a balanced and resilient offensive effort.

Williams’ exit was a significant concern. The Thunder forward left with a recurrence of the same left hamstring injury that had already cost him six games earlier in the playoffs. He did not return for the second half, yet Oklahoma City never wavered, outscoring San Antonio to secure a comfortable nine-point victory.
Spurs overwhelmed by injury trouble
San Antonio’s night was equally difficult on the injury front. Dylan Harper, the promising rookie guard, suffered a right hamstring injury in the third quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game after 24 minutes and 48 seconds of play. His absence compounded an already fragile backcourt situation, with De’Aaron Fox continuing to battle an ankle injury so severe that, according to reports, « he wouldn’t even be trying to play if this were the regular season. »

Stephon Castle rose to the challenge in his expanded role, finishing with 25 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Devin Vassell added 22 points, and Victor Wembanyama delivered an impressive all-around line of 21 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 assists. But the collective effort wasn’t enough to overcome Oklahoma City’s depth and cohesion.
A worrying injury report before Game 3
Both franchises now face critical decisions around player availability. For the Thunder, the status of Jalen Williams will be closely monitored — a prolonged absence from a key contributor could shift the series dynamics, even with a 2-0 lead. For the Spurs, the combination of Harper’s hamstring, Fox’s ankle, and the physical toll of chasing the Thunder makes their path back into the series increasingly steep.
San Antonio will need more from Wembanyama and Castle if they hope to stay alive, while Oklahoma City will look to SGA and their depth to maintain control heading into Game 3.
