After a good season in Liga Endesa with Andorra, Sekou Doumbouya (2.06m, 24 years old) is already packing his bags again to head to Lebanon. The French-Guinean power forward has signed with Sagesse Sports Club Beirut, currently third in the local championship.

With the Pyrenean principality club, Sekou Doumbouya proved quite convincing, averaging 11.3 points on 48.8% shooting, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 20 minutes across 29 Liga Endesa games. He even had a hot streak in early May, scoring 30 points on 10/17 shooting (including 4/6 from 3-point range), 8 rebounds and 1 steal for a 32 efficiency rating, earning him MVP honors for Round 31. Despite an injury in late 2024, Doumbouya showed in Spain that he could perform at a high level, despite his tumultuous early career.

The meeting of an unstable player and club

Drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2019 after impressive seasons with Poitiers and Limoges, Doumbouya failed to fit into Michigan’s muddled project at the time. After brief stints with the Lakers, Houston and Brooklyn, he was cut and eventually returned to France in 2024, finishing the Betclic Elite season with Chorale Roanne. There, the Conakry native regained his form: 21.2 points on over 51% shooting, 4.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 32 minutes per game over 13 games. Though dominant, his impact wasn’t enough to prevent the club’s relegation to Pro B. Andorra seized the opportunity and signed him: a successful gamble as he integrated into the team as their third scoring option, helping the Andorrans maintain mid-table position. Safe from relegation, Doumbouya left Spain before season’s end for Lebanon.

With the third-placed team in the Lebanese championship, Doumbouya will continue his journey this season. He’ll team up with other « journeymen » who had brief or forgettable NBA stints: guard Zach Lofton, Haitian big man Cady Lalanne (2.08m, 33 years old), and American center Johnny O’Bryant (2.06m, 31 years old). Demonstrating the Lebanese project’s instability, Lalanne or O’Bryant – or possibly both – should leave two months after arriving, as Sagesse has just announced Tariq Owens (2.08m, 29 years old) at the same position.
