Second defeat in two days for Rachid Meziane and Bria Hartley with Connecticut

In the midst of playing four games in less than a week, the Connecticut Sun failed to bounce back against Phoenix on Wednesday (83-75), less than 24 hours after their tumultuous defeat in Indiana. Rachid Meziane’s players committed too many turnovers from the start (13 total), reinforcing Mercury’s suffocating defensive press.
Connecticut’s former French international Bria Hartley (5’8″, 32) tried to keep her head above water, contributing 9 points on 2/6 shooting. But it was already too late: Phoenix led throughout the entire game.

Phoenix prevailed through collective effort, with five players scoring 11 points or more. French-Cameroonian Monique Akoa-Makani (5’10 », 24) wasn’t among them, being limited to 21 minutes due to strong performances from Lexi Held and Kitija Laksa in the backcourt off the bench. The future Bourges player still finished the game with 5 points on 1/3 three-point shooting, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
Connecticut and Phoenix are heading in completely opposite directions: Mercury records its first three-game winning streak of the season. Conversely, Connecticut is experiencing, as expected, the worst start in its history, with only 2 wins against 10 losses. The Sun has now lost 4 straight games.
