Rhyne Howard reached 100 threes faster than Diana Taurasi ever did

Rhyne Howard made history on Monday night. With her 100th 3-pointer of the 2026 season, the Atlanta Dream guard became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach that mark in a single season, doing so in just 31 games. The record she broke — 33 games — was one she shared with Diana Taurasi, the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer and the most decorated Olympic athlete in any team sport, with six consecutive gold medals with Team USA from Athens 2004 to Paris 2024.
The milestone came in a dominant 107-95 victory over the Toronto Tempo at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia. Howard finished with 22 points, going 6-of-11 from 3-point range and 7-of-15 from the field overall, adding 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a block in 36 minutes. She was a +10 on the night. Howard is the only player in Dream history to have made 100 threes in a season — and she has now done it twice, after first clearing the mark in 2025.
A record built on volume, efficiency and trust in her shot
What makes this record particularly striking is how Howard got there. She reached 100 makes in 31 games — an average of roughly 3.2 made threes a night — while shooting a career-best 37.1% from behind the arc this season, a meaningful rebound after a difficult stretch with her outside shot last season. The combination of volume and efficiency has made her one of the most dangerous perimeter threats in the league, and her impact goes well beyond the arc: she is averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and a league-leading 2.4 steals per game this season.
Her reaction after the game was characteristically confident. Howard told NBC Sports after the game: “Just wait until next year.”
The Dream’s supporting cast delivered on Monday as well. Jordin Canada contributed 20 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds, while Allisha Gray added 15 points and 5 assists. Brionna Jones came off the bench to score 15 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting. Angel Reese posted 20 points and 14 rebounds for her 22nd double-double of the season. For Toronto, Marina Mabrey led all scorers with 36 points on 12-of-19 shooting, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range.
Atlanta playing its best basketball of the season
The win was also a statement for Atlanta as a team. The Dream improved to 20-12 overall and 12-5 at home, bouncing back after a 79-74 loss to the Washington Mystics on Friday. They outscored Toronto 30-17 in the second quarter to build a 54-39 halftime lead and never looked back. Atlanta is now 14-2 this season when leading at the break — a figure that speaks to how well they are managing games.
Toronto, meanwhile, fell to 10-22 and have now dropped nine consecutive games. The Tempo face Dallas on Wednesday, while Atlanta heads to Connecticut on Thursday.
Howard’s record-breaking season also comes with broader recognition. She was named to the USA Basketball roster for the FIBA Women’s World Cup, adding an international dimension to what is shaping up as the best individual campaign of her career. At 31 games into the season, the question is no longer whether she can reach 100 threes — she already has. The question now is just how far she can push it.
