The end of a long-time collaboration with Jason Kidd

Sweeney’s NBA career began modestly with the Nets, where he held a video coordinator position. He was then promoted to assistant coach before the 2013-14 season, marking the beginning of his rise in the technical staff.

Sean Sweeney and Jason Kidd formed a solid tandem for several years. Their collaboration began in Brooklyn, continued in Milwaukee, before materializing in Dallas in 2021. This privileged working relationship allowed Sweeney to climb the ranks in the NBA universe.

Jason Kidd never hid his esteem for his collaborator. In 2024, the Mavericks coach stated: « He will be a coach one day and he’s a great partner. His work ethic is unmatched. He’s always in the gym and he’s always there to help. Sean’s future as an assistant is extremely promising. One day, he will become a head coach in this league. »
